Interior Design Development

Once the concept design is approved, the focus shifts to transforming that vision into a fully functional and detailed design. This phase allows us to take a deeper dive into the specifics, refining every detail to ensure the space not only looks beautiful but also functions effectively. We transition from broad ideas to fine-tuning, creating a cohesive design that elevates both form and function.

During this phase, we carefully develop floor plans and spatial layouts, ensuring the space flows naturally and serves its intended purpose. We pay attention to each area’s function and the overall connection between spaces. Next, we focus on selecting the right furniture, lighting and bespoke elements. Every piece is carefully chosen to complement the design, enhancing both the aesthetic and comfort of the space.

In addition, we order material and colour samples, working on harmonising colour palettes and material finishes to ensure all elements come together cohesively, creating a unified aesthetic throughout. The materials are selected for their visual appeal, durability and alignment with your design vision, ensuring the space will stand the test of time.

We also create a tailored shopping list, which fits your budget and aesthetic preferences. This includes everything from furniture to lighting.

In this phase, we also focus on bespoke furniture design, collaborating with skilled artisans and craftsmen to create unique, custom pieces tailored specifically for your space. These bespoke elements add a personal touch to your home.

Additionally, we create technical documents such as elevations, lighting plans and other essential drawings to guide the implementation of the design. These documents provide clear instructions for contractors and suppliers, ensuring everything is executed to the highest standard.

Finally, to help you visualise the design before the physical work begins, we provide early visualisations of key design features. These 3D renderings offer a detailed preview of how the space will look, giving you the opportunity to make any necessary adjustments before we move forward with the project. This allows us to fine-tune every aspect, making sure that the final result aligns perfectly with your vision.

If your renovation involves altering the structure or external appearance of the property, planning permissions may be required. For smaller-scale interior changes, such as decorating or layout adjustments, permission typically isn’t needed. However, if you intend to make structural changes - such as adding extensions, altering walls or modifying the building’s facade - it's essential to consult with an architect and submit the necessary planning permissions during this phase.

We strongly recommend that you speak with an architect early in the process to ensure that any structural changes are properly managed and approved. If needed, we are happy to collaborate with an architect to ensure the design is executed within the required guidelines and all approvals are obtained.

Frequently asked questions

What is the interior design development phase?

The interior design development phase is where the initial concept is transformed into a fully detailed plan ready for execution. This stage involves finalising layouts, specifying exact materials and finishes, producing technical drawings and preparing documentation for procurement and construction. It’s the bridge between creative ideas and practical implementation - ensuring every detail is thought through before work begins on-site.

What happens during the interior design development phase?

During the design development phase, we move from the initial concept to refining the details. This includes creating detailed floor plans, selecting furniture and materials, and designing bespoke elements. We also create visualisations of key design features and provide a tailored shopping list that fits your budget and aesthetic preferences.

How is the interior design development phase different from the concept phase?

The concept phase establishes the overall vision for your space - defining the style, colour palette and mood. The design development phase takes that vision and translates it into detailed, build-ready plans. This includes finalising layouts, selecting exact materials and finishes, producing technical drawings and preparing specifications for procurement. It’s the stage where ideas become actionable instructions for contractors and suppliers.

Do I have to take part in the interior design development process?

Yes! We value your input throughout the entire design development phase. After presenting the initial concept, we work closely with you to refine every detail. You’ll have the opportunity to review and approve floor plans, material choices and furniture selections to ensure that the design is aligned with your vision.

How long does the interior design development phase take?

The length of the design development phase varies depending on the scope and complexity of the project. On average, this phase can take anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months, as we ensure all details are carefully considered and aligned with your needs.

Do you provide 3D visualisations during this phase?

Yes, we create 3D visualisations to bring the design to life before any work begins. These visualisations allow you to see key design features in a realistic way, giving you the chance to make adjustments if needed. This helps ensure the design fully meets your expectations before moving forward.
