REIMAGINE: Pattern Dialogues

February 2025

Pattern Dialogues was a speculative spatial workshop developed in collaboration with photographer Lisa Laudieri, exploring how atmosphere, pattern and narrative shape spatial perception.

Hosted at Super SATELLITE, the session used Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel as a visual and atmospheric reference point. Rather than analysing real urban sites, participants engaged with fictional interiors as a way of examining colour, composition and spatial storytelling through collage and visual reinterpretation.

WORKSHOP

Participants were invited to reinterpret scenes from the film using cut-outs from Lisa’s photography archive, layering textures, patterns and tonal contrasts to construct new spatial narratives.

The workshop encouraged close observation, reinterpretation and playful intervention - treating cinematic space as a site for speculative design thinking. By working with fiction rather than real constraints, participants were able to explore mood, identity and composition in a distilled and experimental way.
